Triton Audio is known for extremely handy inline mic boosters like the Fethead, and the many versions available. The Triton Audio Kompressor is their latest offering, and does offer +25dB of boost for passive microphones, but the new twist?
It's a FET/OPTO compressor with single knob operation to dial it in!
In our testing it is very obvious that to say the Kompressor punches above its weight is an understatement, as it's already more affordable than most phantom powered gain boosters on the market. The compressor seems tailored for voice, which I'm sure 99% of users would want it for. You're pretty much going to plug it into your passive mic, turn on phantom power, then choose from 0 to 100 of how much compression you want applied to your voice.
Done.
The amazing part is how good it controls voice, and also how nice it sounds.
Kompressor is good for those recording singers, but I could picture podcasters going nuts for this kind of control while also bringing mics like the RE20 and SM7B up to useful gain levels. There is a broadcast quality to voices compressed in the analog realm, just listen to the radio. You're hearing it (multiple compressors on the way to air for broadcast) so to have that somewhat more intimate and surface level voice might be welcome for many streamers, gamers and more.
